Sew Straight and Gather Andromeda Top and Dress

butterfly4

Terri at Sew Straight and Gather has done it yet again.  I swear she can do no wrong.  Her patterns are always so unique and so well done.  The Andromeda Top and Dress is no exception.  AND- she’s having an AMAZING Black Friday Sale right now.  All single patterns are just $5 CAD!  What a steal!!! I suggest heading over there right after reading how much I love this new pattern 😉

butterfly12

I tested the girls version but there is also a ladies- yessssss!  The girl’s comes in sizes 2-14 and the women’s in sizes XS-3XL.  They both feature banded top, tunic,  free flowing dress and gathered waist dress options.  Those sleeves make it so incredibly fun!

butterfly5

I made my first one out of pretty double brushed poly from Knitpop.  It worked perfect for this pattern.  I left the sleeves raw and did a simple neckband.  This pattern could possibly be the quickest thing I’ve ever sewn!  Just a few seams later and this beauty was done.

butterfly8

She’s worn it a few times since and always gets so many compliments.  It’s so darling and definitely has that wow! factor.

butterfly14

Little sis was intensely jealous and was dying for her own.  I’ve been crushing hard on stretch velvet lately and snatched up some gorgeous colors from Stylish Fabric.  I used this pretty gold and I’m thrilled with the quality and great customer service I received.  AND it was also a steal compared to what I’ve seen elsewhere. It was my first time sewing with it and I new this simple pattern was a great choice to begin with.

butterfly13

From cut to finish this was done in under a half hour (it helped my pattern was all ready from big sis- loving that they wear the same size!).

Can we talk about this goofy girl for a minute?  She did NOT want to model but the second she got this on she was smitten.  She turned on the super model moves like that!  She kills me!

butterfly11

I’d say she likes it!

Make sure you grab your Andromeda- you can get the girls, ladies (Terri’s sweater-knit cover version is killer!) or the bundle.  Don’t forget to pick up some of my other favs too- check out my versions here, here, here, here, and here.

Love Notions Maggie and Margot Peplums

peplumpair5-1

I’ve been testing for Love Notions for about a year now and I’m so excited to help Tami celebrate the release of her 50th pattern!!!  The Maggie and Margot Peplums are full of options and will be a great addition to your PDF line-up.

*This post contains affiliate links.

margot3-1

Confession- this test was full of firsts for me.  This was my first EVER peplum make, first one I even tried on really.  This is also my first time using Liverpool.  I’ve got to say that I will definitely be doing both again!

maggie3-1

Both the ladies and girls versions come with a basic bodice option or you can do princess seams like in this one.  I love being able to mix fabrics with the princess seams.  Still using my favorite stripes and florals- this time both come from Raspberry Creek Fabrics.  You can find the floral here and the stripes are coming soon here (available for pre-order).

margot7-1

The Ladies comes in sizes XS-XXXL and features short, elbow, 3/4, and long sleeves.  There are also three skirt options- swing, gathered, and pleated.  I did a size small, plain bodice, elbow sleeve,  with a swing skirt.

(Another confession- I hate looking at the camera!  It’s so hard to look natural and not look like I’m trying to sell you lingerie!  Hence, the sunglasses in most of my pics AND why I sew for my kids way more than myself!)

maggie6

For Sophie I did a size 8, 3/4 sleeve, swing skirt top.  The girls version has all the same options and comes in sizes 2T-16 so I’ll be sewing these up for years to come!

peplumpair1-1

As always Tami’s patterns are trimless and feature layers.  They are thoroughly tested and flatter every tester I’ve seen.  The tutorials are always full of helpful tips and tricks and the Love Notions Pattern Support Facebook Group is a great resource if you ever get stuck.

Love Notions is celebrating big time in the Facebook group and it’s given me a chance to look back on my favorite Love Notions patterns.

I have ALOT! From the top- I wear my Canyon Cardigan almost daily and Charlie wears his Moto Maxx pants every time they’re clean.  The Tidal Top wins for cutest quick sew and the Tabitha Top is my perfect dressy casual top.  The Tessa Sheath Dress is the classic dress up or down dress.  My Charlie has requested more Vanguard Pants because he loves all the pockets!  In my search for the perfect dolman top I keep reaching for the La Bella Top for me and my girls- it’s the perfect slim fit that flatters everyone!  The options with the Li’l Laundry Day Tee, Tunic, and Dress make it a pattern I reach for ALL THE TIME!  I love patterns that almost all my kids can wear and the Samson Sweater is just that.  There are still so many options with the Sybil Illusion Skirt that I need to sew up but this pleated version is one of my favorite makes ever.  And finally the pattern that started my Love Notions journey, the Boyfriend Cardigan was my first Love Notions pattern test and I have a couple more planned for this fall.  I love that Tami designs for the whole family.  Looking back through all my makes was so fun and reminded me I want to make so many of them again!

Make sure to pick up you copies here!  I can’t wait to see these start filling up my Facebook feeds!  Such a fun pattern!

Heidi and Finn Veritas Cape

poncho1

I’ve been loving the poncho trend and was just about to draft my own pattern when the tester call went out for the new Heidi and Finn Veritas Cape.  It was WAY better than I could have come up with and the animal hood options are too cute for words!

poncho2

It’s so cozy and so, so stinkin’ darling!  In sizes 12 months- 14 years, there’s a hood and a nice chunky cowl option too.

poncho4

I sewed up the bunny hood option for my little one.  Man, she kills me even when she’s pouting!

poncho6

I used a super soft cream fleece and the pink is a sweater knit.  This pattern works beautifully for all those thick, yummy knits you’ve been hoarding!

poncho3

I love the subtle hi-low hem and the facing is so fun to add a pop of color.

poncho5

This cutie loves her new poncho!  All my kids are super jealous of it and have asked for their own.  I’ve got to say that I’m with them…I need one for me too!

City Park Hack x2

cityhack10

You know by now that I have a severe love affair with Hey June patterns.  They are the basics that make up so much of mine and my kids wardrobes.  When I was playing around with patterns for Project Run and Play I couldn’t help but turn to these patterns as my basic building blocks.  Today I’m sharing two easy hacks that I did using the City Park Tee.

cityhack9

Loose peplums and swingy knit dresses are all over my Pinterest feed.  I knew this pattern would be perfect to recreate these looks.

cityhack1

For the cute swingy dress I used this tutorial Adrianna did.  I cut my front piece to create a v in the stripes and did it as wide and swingy as the fabric cut would allow.  I used my leftovers from this dress (my own Union swing dress hack).  It has just the perfect amount of drape and bounce.  She just couldn’t stop spinning in it!

cityhack3

I’m absolutely loving this length on her too.  Hopefully she can wear it well into next summer.

cityhack2

One can never have enough black and white stripes in their wardrobe!

cityhack7

For the peplum hack I cut the bodice pieces at the lengthen/shorten line. I added a gathered skirt the width of the fabric and Bam!  A cute swingy top in no time!

cityhack6

I think I’ll be sewing elbow length sleeves until someone gives me an intervention.  They just are the perfect length to wear on their own or to layer with a cardigan.

cityhack4

Fall means more plaid too!  Be forwarned that this blog will soon be overrun with all things plaid 😉

cityhack8

I love these quick, simple takes on an already fabulous pattern!  I’m sure they’ll get many more!

Simple Summer Sewing II

santafe6

Yesterday’s post was all about the skirts.  Today I’ve got some simple go-to tops for you, plus my second take on my newest favorite pattern hack.

blueneptune2

These are pieces I know I will grab again and again.

santafe3

The Santa Fe Top from Hey June has quickly become the most worn top in my wardrobe.  I’ve got a couple I made in testing that were getting lots of action and I’ve been itching to make more all summer.

santafe2

I love being able to use small scraps and to mix fabrics in this view.  I had just enough of this gorgeous floral rayon spandex from Pretty Posh Prints for these sleeves.

santafe5

I love, love the flowiness of this top.  It’s perfect to throw on with jeans or in my case it’s usually jean cut-offs.

neptune1

Another go-to tee pattern for me is the Neptune Tee from See Kate Sew.  I just love the basic version so, so much!

neptune2

In a yummy cotton lycra from Raspberry Creek Fabrics I’ve been hoarding away, it really couldn’t be any more dreamy!  It’s another great tee to just throw on to run errands or chill at the park.

blueneptune4

Surprise, surprise!  I just had to make another Neptune dress.  My first I have deemed my ‘naked dress’, as in I feel like I’m in my birthday suit it is so comfy!!!

blueneptune5

This super soft rayon spandex makes THE perfect easy tee dress.  It’s to die for, I tell ya’!

(I got this in a Girl Charlee Knitfix ages ago but So Sew English has had it in stock lately!)

blueneptune

I’m seriously not a dress girl but I could wear these EVERY day!  And the best part is- come night time I’m already in my pj’s 😉

Well, that’s my real summer wardrobe for you.  I’ve got the glamorous job of shuttling kids around all day or cleaning up after them if I happen to leave them on their own for too long (anything over five minutes, right moms? ;).  Comfort is the key and I love my new pieces!

Love Notions Girls Tidal

tidal4

The Girls Tidal pattern from Love Notions is here!!!

This post contains affiliate links.  I joined the Love Notions affiliate program AFTER testing for her and trying her patterns.  I love that her patterns go through a very thorough testing process and include all the bells and whistles like no-trim pages, layered sizing, and detailed tutorials.  I get a small commission when you buy through my links that I then use to buy more fabric to sew up more new patterns 😉

tidal21

The Girls Tidal pattern has all the same great looks as the Ladies Version (you can see mine here).  There are tank, sleeveless, and short sleeve options.  Top, knee length dress, and maxi choices make it super versatile too!

tidal16

I love that this pattern is so quick and easy to sew (we’re talking it took me longer to hem than it does to actually sew 😉

tidal13

It’s such a multifaceted pattern and I love that we got a dress suitable for church and a fun tank for the 4th out of the same great pattern.

tidal6

The options to mix fabrics make this so fun to play with.

tidal18

The wrap sides are so unique and so, so cute!

tidal5

Their Tidals fit perfectly into their wardrobes and will get so much wear.  Casual, cute clothes are in high demand when you’re 7 and 8!

Love Notions is having a killer 4th of July sale this weekend and this pattern is included!

Use code ‘fireworks’ to get 25% of your purchase of $20 (this pattern is included!).

You can also grab the Girls and Ladies Tidal Bundle for a steal too!

Love Notions Tidal Top and Dress

tidal19

It’s here!!! The Love Notions Tidal Top and Dress is the summer essential you’ve been waiting for!

tidal14

(I am a paid Love Notions tester which means I get a little compensation for my time and materials.  I’m also a Love Notions affiliate so if you purchase through links on my blog I’ll get a small kick back.  Just enough to get me a little more fabric to keep up with the next fabulous Love Notions pattern!)

tidal10

I love, love testing for Tami at Love Notions.  Each pattern goes through the ringer and the end result is always the best it can be.  She is super receptive to feedback and works right along side the testers to perfect the fit of each piece.

tidal1

There are a three different sleeve options- tank, sleeveless, and short sleeve.  You can also make it a top, knee-length dress, or maxi.  I need a sleeve so I was thrilled when she added that option.

tidal37

It features a wrap around seam and either bands or binding finishing options.  The top has a slight high low hem.  It is an amazingly quick sew and I couldn’t stop making them!

tidal2

This cute coral dress was made in the first round of testing.  The fit right off was pretty good and I absolutely love this dress.  I used beautiful stretch lace and cotton lycra from Raspberry Creek Fabrics.

tidal9

I made version two in more cotton lycra and stretch lace from RCF.  Cotton lycra is a bit thick for this drapey top and I was anxious to make another version with something a bit more flowy.

tidal16

This version is one of my favorites!  I love the fit of it.  The sleeves were a bit wide though and continued to be tweaked through the testing process.

tidal38

This top was made with the final version and the sleeve fit is perfection!

tidal22

I’d been dying to make a maxi version and this one in CLUB stripes from RCF is just what I was looking for.

tidal30

It’s so fun to accessorize and so comfy and chic!

tidal13

I have a feeling my summer wardrobe will be filled with Tidal’s!

Cali Faye January Peplum

january7

I’m always on the hunt for cute woven top patterns.  The January Peplum from Cali Faye caught my eye when it was released and has been on my ‘to-sew’ list ever since.

january1

About the same time I just HAD to order this darling panda quilting cotton from Phat Quarters fabrics on Etsy.  Gemia (one of the Phat Quarters owners) was one of my first online sewing friends and I was so excited to place my first order with her.  It was super quick shipping and she has such an amazing selection (this print has since sold out but there’s a ton of cute stuff to check out).

january2

I knew this fabric and pattern would be a great combo for my panda-lovin’ girl!

january4

She just loves her cute ‘panda-licious’ top!

january5

It certainly suits her little personality!

january11

I really adore the shape of this pattern.  The hi-low peplum is too cute!

january12

january10

The construction is basic and quick.  Nothing fancy but the tutorial is clear and concise.  It has a zipper back and a shoulder detail that can add fun contrast and pops of color.

january9

The neck is done with bias which I still need to work on my technique.  It looks fine but not perfect!

january8

I’m not exactly sold on the sleeves… I think I’ll do them shorter next time but she liked them as is so I’ve got to make the customer happy 😉

january3

I’ve got one happy girl and I think there will be more of these come fall.  The pattern cover is done in a lightweight flannel that I can’t get out of my head.  Hopefully, it doesn’t take me months to get to that one!

Hey June Handmade Sante Fe Tee

santafe3

Adrianna strikes again… I’m convinced everything she touches is golden!

santafe7

The Santa Fe Top is no different.

santafe2

I’m going to live in these tees this summer!

santafe16

A loose, flowy top is on everyone’s wish list right now.  They are so on trend and this pattern checks all the right boxes.

santafe5

With multiple options, you can have a cute tank or a fun cap sleeved tee.

santafe14

The fun sleeve color-blocking option resembles a raglan and lends itself to some super cool pattern mixing.

santafe4

There is also an option for a top-stitched seam down the center front and back- a detail that total elevates this tee.

santafe13

Fabric choice makes such a difference with this pattern.  The drapier the knit the better.  My main fabrics are LA scores and the floral is from Pretty Posh Prints.  I chose not to hem my tees since it won’t fray and I’m lazy 😉  I added an inch to the stripe version and 2 inches to the grey.  I did a regular neckband on the grey also to bring it in just a touch.

santafe1

Run and get your pattern NOW!  Seriously… You won’t regret it!  It’s on sale through May 16th.
