A Christmas Naples with Hawthorne Threads

naples15

The Naples Dress from Jennuine Design (affliliate link) is one of my favorite patterns and I’ve been wanting to sew another version for awhile now.  As a member of the new Certified Jennuine Design team I knew this should be my first project.  I know I can happily scream from the rooftops my love for this pattern!

I fell in love with the newest Indy Bloom Christmas line from Hawthorne Threads and was so happy to partner with them to showcase this pretty print on this project.  This is printed on rayon and perfect for this pattern.  The drape and weight are lovely and those sleeves were just made for this fabric type.  This floral is just so beautiful and unique- a holiday print that she can wear all winter.

This pattern is a quick sew and so original.  There are mulitple sleeve options and you can pick to do a gathered or a-line skirt. I picked the butterfly sleeves for this dress.  I think it’s my sleeve of choice right now and anytime it’s an option I go for it!  I love the drama it brings but without all the work of ruffles.

I’ve made a couple in the past but this is my first gathered skirt version.  I love the extra fullness it gives the dress.  Perfect for a little twirling!  My version is a bit of a hi-low hem.  I’m calling it a happy accident as I gathered the straight bottom hem instead of the curved top of the skirt.  I love the little bit of edge it gives the dress.

My favorite detail of this pattern is the big bow tie option.  I love the retro-cool look it gives the dress but it’s so sweet at the same time.  Every time I make this pattern I giggle at the images of 70’s supermodels it reminds me of.  It has such a vintage vibe but in a modern classic way.

We had to do our favorite bow hairdo for this look.  Too perfect for the holidays and to imitate the front tie too!

Oh how we love this dress!!!  I’m so excited to be able to share my favorite Jennuine Designs makes with you and know you will love them too.

I sat down with my girls and we debated FOREVER about which prints to choose.  The line comes in two colorways- Spruce and Sweet.  I’m a sucker for non-traditional Christmas colors and this line really pulled me in.   We picked Dashing Through the Snow in Onyx with a gorgeous mint solid and Merry and Bright in Sweet.

I love that they can wear these dresses all winter long!  This fabric is thicker than your normal quilting cotton and a dream to sew.

I knew I wanted a simple silhouette for my oldest- something that would really let this fun fabric really shine.  I used the Norah Dress from Welcome to the Mouse House.  I did a size 7 with a 12 length for my tall girl.  I love the sweet a-line and classic feel it has.

I changed the dress slightly by adding an exposed zipper on the back.  I felt like it needed a little edge to please this picky girly.

I’ve been dreaming of making a Little Lizard King Double Scoop Dress since it’s release and I knew this fabric was destined for one.  This pattern is AMAZING!  It will be my new go-to for that classic fitted bodice dress.  The options with this one are darling and I’m already planning my next one.

I did KAM snaps up the back that match the mint just perfect!  This dress has a retro feel that I adore!  The full skirt, peter pan collar, big bow sash- seriously too cute for words!

These girls were thrilled that their new dresses matched their newly redecorated bedroom- no wonder we were smitten with these fabrics!  They had a blast shooting these fun looks.

Simple Life Pattern Co. Back to School Blog Tour

main2

We’re just a week away from the first day of school and I’m sharing our First Day Looks for the Simple Life Pattern Company’s Back to School Blog Tour.

My girls picked out the Taylor Shift Dress and the Adelyn’s Scoop Back Dress for their looks.  They suit these two to a tee!

This girl loves things classic and sophisticated.  The Taylor dress was just perfect.  We did a modified 3/4 sleeve to get us right into fall.  It was a super quick sew and made to showcase those amazing fabrics you love.

The cut-out in the back adds interest but is small enough to be dress code approved!

This dress is one of my favorite things on this girly!  That bow and the twirly circle skirt are absolutely perfect for her.  I love that bow so, so much!!!

She really couldn’t stop twirling!

I love a knit bodice for comfort and the woven skirt offers the perfect chance to use all those fabulous fabrics you’ve been eyeing.  I did an elbow sleeve here- so versatile and perfect for every season.  I used the modest scoop back option too.

Hawthorne Threads very generously sponsored this post.  It was my first time ordering from them and it was a fantastic experience.  I let this girl get on the site and pick her favorites.  She had quite the list!  Have you seen the hundreds and hundreds of designs they offer in their in-house lines?  Ah-Mazing!!!  I was thrilled that she had picked Bloomerie in Ink because it was one of my favorites too.  It’s part of their new Nectar line and I’m just crazy for the colors.

I quickly set to work picking coordinates for little sis and Meaghan at Hawthorne was so helpful getting me the perfect navy knit to match big sister (I went with Buffalo Plaid in Honey to feed my current plaid obsession and Art Gallery Solid Knit in Deep Dark Ocean).  Customer service means a lot to me and I was super impressed with how quickly my emails were answered and how fast my fabric showed up on my doorstep.  The cotton is printed in house and is super soft.  It’s a bit thicker than normal quilting cotton and I’m already dreaming of the home decorating possibilities with it too!

These two are set to start 2nd and 3rd grade at a new school this year.  We’re all a little nervous but I think it will be a great year.  I’m so happy they have each other.  We went and wandered around the new school for these pictures.  It was fun to explore the new playground.
