Pattern Emporium Blog Tour

I’m beyond thrilled to be kicking off Pattern Emporium‘s very first Blog Tour! Lucky, lucky me!

Pattern Emporium is so highly regarded in the sewing world and I can now see what everyone raves about.

If this is your first time to my blog, welcome! I’m a stay-at-home mom to five busy kids and I sew to stay sane. We rush from one thing to the next so I cherish my quiet afternoons with my machine. I’ve also learned that I love to take pictures of my kids almost as much as I love sewing for them so be warned that this post is loaded with pics!

I’ve had the Ladies Harem Pants pattern cut out and sitting on this fabric for an embarrassingly long time (we’re talking months). This tour was the perfect push to get them done and I couldn’t wait to sew some up for my girls too!

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect woven joggers forever and this pattern is exactly what I envisioned it would be.

I made mine up per the pattern with diagonal relaxed pockets and elastic casings in the ankles. They are so comfortable and fit like a dream. My fabric came from the LA fabric district and is a rayon challis.

I love the waistband and pockets! The pocket holds my phone perfectly which is always a struggle with this type of pant.

My oldest daughter’s are similar to mine but with a curved front pocket and no elastic in the ankle. She really wanted ‘flowy’ pants!

Hers are sewn with rayon challis from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. This style of pant suits her easy-going but sophisticated little personality.

My younger daughter is all about comfort. For hers I left off the pockets and cropped them quite a bit. I also used the same size as big sister’s so they are a bit looser. For ultimate comfort I traded the elastic waistband for a knit waistband. All fabric for this pair is also from Raspberry Creek.

These will be perfect for my little dancer. I love that she can push the cuff up for a true harem pant look or pull it down for a cute crop pant.

I honestly can’t get over the options that these patterns have. I could see these being a summer staple for sure.

My little guy may even get a comfy knit pair too. Really, I think he’ll be jealous if he doesn’t!

Love Notions Summer Caye Pants

Oh, Summer Caye’s, I love you!

The newest pattern from Love Notions is simply divine!

With tons of options for women and girls, you can wear this pattern everyday if you wanted to.

I know me and my girls will definitely have a closetful.

There are multiple length options. You can choose 4″ or 6″ shorts for girls or 6″ and 9″ inseam length for women. There are also capri and full length choices. The girl’s pattern comes in sizes 2T- 16 and 8P-16P. The women’s pattern will fit sizes 0-28 (waist sizes 24.5″-45.5″).

All my versions feature a simple hem but there are a handful of options there too. You can add a cuff, split-hem, and a gorgeous tulip-hem.

And pockets… these are genius in construction! Super cute without the bulk.

The ladies version has two width options- wide leg (a bit narrower) on the left and palazzo on the right.

So many choices… one for every day of the week. I’m excited to try some shorts for myself next!

This is a size 8 pant length out of linen from Joann’s. They are so unlike her normal skinny jeans and we both love these!

I love these pants with a denim jacket!

You might recognize her shorts fabric from this Naples top. I had just enough fabric left for these shorts. You better believe I wasn’t wasting a scrap of this lusciousness!

My gorgeous rayon challis came from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. This particular print sold-out in a heartbeat but there are still quite a few to pick from. I think the tie dye would be awesome for these. Head over to the Love Notions Blog for a sweet RCF coupon code.

This rayon challis was a Hancock fabric score (oh, how I will miss my Hancock’s!).

We’ve had so much fun playing with the new Club Fabrics here at Raspberry Creek Fabrics.

The colors of the new line are so bright and vibrant and perfect for spring and summer.

E & E Ruffled Playsuit

The new Ruffled Playsuit pattern by Elegance and Elephants seriously can’t get any cuter!

I love the sweet ruffled bodice- so feminine and sassy at the same time!

And the back is just as cute as the front!

This fabric from Raspberry Creek was so perfect for this pattern. It lends a little tropical vibe to the playsuit and I think it would look lovely on the beach -hint, hint hubby ;).

I love that while it’s super sweet on the little ones, with some cute sandals and shades it works great for my 6-going -on-16-year-old.

And the wide neck and elastic-buttoned back make potty breaks a breeze.

My playsuit was made during the first round of testing. Fit adjustments were made to the neckline and armholes so the fit is even better now! It comes in sizes 6 months to 8 years and has a shorts and pants option. There’s also a tutorial to make it a dress. The pattern tutorial is clear and well written and the construction method was brilliant. This was my first Elegance and Elephants pattern and I would definitely purchase from Heidi in the future.

Sew Straight and Gather’s Uptown/Downtown Dress

Guys, I feel like this dress needs a little drumroll… Introducing the new and improved Uptown/Downtown Dress!!!

Terri at Sew Straight and Gather has taken one of her most popular patterns and made it even better! She totally redid the pattern and tutorial and it is AMAZING!

All the options are still there- multiple sleeve lengths and tank options, knee and maxi lengths, cowl, pockets, and lining choices too! This pattern is jam-packed!

I love the sleek fit and clean neckline finish.

The inside of this dress looks almost as good as the outside. Terri has the best finishing techniques.

Can you tell she loves it too?!!! This just suits my lil princess so well- comfy yet sophisticated.

I love the styling options with this pattern. It’s so easy to dress it up or make it super casual too.

We had a ton of fun just walking and taking pics for this shoot- super casual and she was so relaxed. That always leads to the best pictures and these are some of my favs.

Even when she stopped to pout for a minute, she still managed to nail the shot!

After killing this shoot I asked her how old she was because she was posing like a pro. Love this dress and lil girly!

A Maxi for Sophie

It’s rare that I get to sew just because but ever since I got this fabric it’s been calling to me.

I knew when I saw it that it would become a maxi skirt for Soph. The colors and print are so bright and totally her.

The top is a Lil Zippy top from See Kate Sew in a mystery rayon blend from Hancock’s. I love the almost neon color of it too!

For the skirt I used Mingo and Grace’s Crop Top Set as my base. I lengthened the skirt and I used the width of fabric instead of the skirt pattern piece. The skirt fabric is also from Hancock’s (man, I’m going to miss their apparel fabric deals!).

I love the drama of this outfit but also that it’s comfy and practical enough for church on Sundays. She wore this to church and didn’t want to take it off the rest of the day. Maxi’s are the best for Sunday lounging!

This is totally another outfit I’m wishing I’d made in my own size. If only I didn’t need twice as much fabric…

I loved this shoot! We drove past this little water feature a few days ago and she immediately said, “That’s perfect for a photo shoot. I really want to do my skirt pictures there!” Is she a pro or what?!!

And this my friends, is why I sew! She’s thrilled with her new outfit and I couldn’t be happier!

Gracie Dress by Blaverry

I’ve shown you amazing, intermediate projects from Blaverry here and here but today I’m happy to feature an easy, quick sew- the Gracie Dress.

It’s a cute, raglan-sleeve knit dress with a drop waist and fun little skirt hem.

The kangaroo pocket in the front is a darling detail.

For our version I got to play with the brand new Club line from Raspberry Creek Fabrics.

I used the aqua abstract floral for the skirt and it matched so perfect with the berry heathered french terry from the shop too (currently out of stock but will be in soon).

The finishing in the pattern is superb. It has a bound neckline like the Finn but I chose to use the back of my french terry for the neckline and did a simple t-shirt neckband. It did make it wider than the intended finish but I think it’s great for this sporty look.

We are desperately in need of more everyday clothes so this pattern was perfect. It’s a quick sew and will be great for school.

If you’re unfamiliar with Blaverry patterns, I have a few tips. They are concise so the instructions are not overwhelming. This can be hard if you’re new to a technique (google is your friend!) but also keeps the pattern steps clear and easy. I’m also glad I have my models handy because fitting kids can be tricky. This is a straight size 7 on my tall skinny girl and it fits great. I would trim an inch or two from the main dress if I made this for my more standard size younger daughter. I do get the pattern for free but I have been so happy with all of my Blaverry finished projects.

Lil Luxe Maxi Dress

This sweet girl is outgrowing all her dresses which is fabulous for little sis and means I get to make new Sunday clothes- sounds like a win-win all around.

She requested a maxi dress and was drawn to this lovely blue floral linen I’ve had in my stash for awhile. I knew the Lil Luxe Dress from Lil Luxe Collection would be just what she envisioned.

I personalized this pattern a couple ways.

First, I raised the scoop in the back by two inches. While I love the scoop back, I wanted it a bit more modest to wear to church and it was a super easy modification.

The sleeves are supposed to be lined but my fabric was a little thicker and I didn’t want to add extra bulk.

My skirt is just one piece, the width of the fabric. Not so much a design choice as a lack of fabric thing.

I absolutely love this dress and she does too. I’ve got another one planned for little sis and know it will be a go to pattern for dresses and tops in the future.

A little behind the scenes on this shoot- Snow was forecast for the next day so as soon as she got home from school we did a quick fitting. I had to take it in a bit and hem it up before rushing her to the park between her after school commitments.

The lining may or may not be safety pinned down 😉 A girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do! Tell me you’ve had those moments too, right?!!

The key to all the smiles this shoot was having her bestie along. Cutest little friends!

Happy Easter from my family to yours.

Easter is such a special time of year. Spring is in the air and with that the world is full of hope. Hope for warmer weather, new life, and a feeling of renewal.

It also brings a feeling of gratitude. I’m so grateful for this little family of mine and for all my little everyday blessings.

It was so fun for these cute sisters to get dressed this morning. You can read more about their dresses here and here.

I didn’t get to share these sweet sister pics so they’re my Easter gift to you (hopefully the Easter bunny brought you some chocolate too ;)!

Naples Dress Blog Tour

Can it get any cuter?

Why yes, just throw in a matching doll version…DYING!!!

I’m so excited to be a stop on the Naples Dress Blog Tour.

This pattern (affl. link) and gorgeous Art Gallery denim are a match made in seamstress heaven!

I was so excited to get my hands on Art Gallery Fabrics new Denim line.

The great people at Art Gallery generously sent a couple yards of Solid Smooth Denim in Afternoon Sail for me to sew up for this tour. It’s got a slight shine and drapes beautifully. Exactly what this pattern needed!

This shade of blue matches her eyes perfectly! I now have a new favorite picture of my cutie!

Denim and cream trim are such a classic combo.

For this version of the dress, I did butterfly sleeves and an aline dress.

I used left over fabric from this dress for the tie. I love the bit of contrast it adds.

Simple and sweet and perfect for her Easter dress.

She loves how comfy it is! Nice and flowy but so hippie chic at the same time.

Of course she wanted a matching dress for her mini-me doll.

The doll dress is such a quick, fun sew. I think it was cut and finished in half an hour.

My kind of project- quick and made her so, so happy!

This pic cracks me up- They have the same toothy smile!!
